Diverse City with B5

B5 REPRESENTING DIVERSE CITY

Atlanta Georgia is home to the 5 dynamic brothers known as B5 (Dustin, Kelly, Patrick, Carnell and Bryan)! You've seen them on Disney, Nickelodeon, MTV and BET; heard them on High School Musical, Hanna Montana and Disney! Growing up multi-racial, (black and white mix), the brothers have lived diversity! 'This is why we felt so passionate about participating with this project, because it all starts with kids!' states Bryan. 'Success, knowledge and love have no color! It's the way you think that makes the difference,' says Patrick. 'Diverse City is 100% B5 Approved! It lets kids know that we are all beautiful in our own way!'

This rhyming picture book encourages children to accept and celebrate one another while welcoming cultural diversity. There is a message about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream, discussion questions, and a letter to young authors in the back. A portion of the proceeds go to support unity initiatives.

True Story Behind The Book

Hi! I am Shawna Ray, songwriter and vocalist behind the Rhythm Ray band. My first children's book, Take a Trip to Diverse City was also just published and came from a personal experience that my son Zachary had with his friend Jacob at an Indiana school. Check out www.myspace.com/shawnaraybooks and www.shawnaray.com for more info.

So, the true story behind the book is that I am a single Mom and at night my kids and I share "goodnights" by asking, "What was your favorite part of the day?" and then "Were there any sad parts?" These are some of my all time favorite conversations. Zac's sad part one day was that some kids at school wouldn't let his friend Jacob play because his skin was "brown." WHAT??? First grade? I stayed calm with him, although saddened.
